My training in integrative psychotherapy draws upon a range of different modalities and enables me to form an approach tailored to the needs and goals of my clients. Gestalt therapy is at the heart of this approach, with its focus on what is happening in the 'here and now' of therapy, and its emphasis on the impact that external conditions have upon our internal world. I find this to be affirming and useful when exploring issues related to identity, which are inextricably linked to the social world around us.
Gender, sexual identity, relationship diversity and neurodiversity are topics I am particularly interested in, and my own experiences of the benefits of therapy as a queer trans man inform my work in these areas.
I work with people from all different backgrounds, who come to therapy to work through a wide variety of challenges and issues. If you are wondering whether I might be the right therapist for you, I would encourage you to contact me so that we can talk through your needs and goals in a free initial assessment.
I believe therapy and counselling can be transformational and I am motivated by a desire to help individuals explore their unique potential and position in life. I believe in the healing power of the therapeutic relationship and how having the space to show up as your true self can help you navigate the complexities of the world we live in.
The values I hold close to me, which I aim to embody in my everyday life and my therapeutic practice, are:
It is rare that we experience true acceptance and non-judgement in life, and this is especially true for those from marginalised identities. I strive to provide an open space of acceptance and non-judgement.
I enjoy learning about people’s stories and how they understand and view the world. I believe everyone has a highly unique way of viewing the world and I will seek to understand your individual perspective.
As a white queer trans man, I try to recognise the impact that my own positionality and privilege have on the therapeutic dynamic. I value the importance of identity and cultural background, and the contribution they can make to mental health and wellbeing.
